Happry 25th Anniversary – Hard To Kill

It’s now 25 years since Hard to Kill hit the big screen, way back in 1990.  Which was most definitely a big year for manly movies.

This was more or less when Steven Seagal established himself as a mainstream action star, his career peaked a few years later then tanked, almost parallel to Jean Claude Van Damme who rose around the same time and declined at the same time, for the same reasons.

Hard to Kill is an underrated and underappreciated movie.  For a start, look around.  Critically the movie is an outcast across the various ‘metre’ and movie ‘database’ sites.  Secondly, the full movie has rarely been seen, as Warner Brothers chopped the full version down to 90 minutes from its original runtime.  A lot of stuff was cut when evidently someone didn’t have the confidence of the movie.

But we know better.  The film quadrupled its budget despite being chopped to shit (kinda like Another 48 Hrs, which was also butchered the same year).  Look, despite all the jokes and ribbing, this is the Steven Seagal we wanna see.  The original badass who appeared in big movies, when he still gave a shit.

Cypher… we’re betting the farm on you and using Hard to Kill’s 25th anniversary as motivation.
