UPDATED: EX4 IS NOW A SPIN OFF, MORE CAST RUMORS

UPDATED:

Earlier in the summer, Sylvester Stallone confirmed The Expendables 4 was incoming on Instagram.  Something again confirmed by Randy Couture, the Dolph Lundgren fan community and the stunt co-ordinator for the movie, as well as Bulgarian media.

Now, Sylvester Stallone has updated Instagram again.

There will be a fourth Expendables movie, just not a third sequel.  It’ll be the Jason Statham-led spin off movie.  The Expendables: A Christmas Story.

According to an old article by DevDiscourse, the movie will have a budget of $70 million and be directed by D.J. Caruso.  The cast updates below appear to be who will appear in the movie.

As for the unidentified fifth man, Arnold Sánchez had a good eye on Twitter:

… and what do you know?  That is Andy Garcia:

PREVIOUSLY:

Stunt man Buster Reeves has been teasing more stuff on Instagram.  A part of The Expendables 4 production, he has uploaded another image, with a part of the cast on the wall in the background.  As he tagged it ‘Expendables4’, a follower asked him if the people seen on the wall were the cast of the movie.  Reeves responded: ‘Some of them.  Not all’.

The pictures are hard to make out.  The wall is using, apparently, IMDb profile pictures.  From left to right:

1) JASON STATHAM

2) SYLVESTER STALLONE

3) ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER (?)

4) MEGAN FOX

5)  JET LI (?)

6) 50 CENT

7) RANDY COUTURE

8) TONY JAA

The pictures match, clearly.  Although ‘Some of them, not all’ could also mean that only some of those in the pictures are in the film, unlikely though, it probably simply means that other members of the cast are not on the wall.

Astute followers of this series will remember that 50 Cent was originally sought for the role of Hale Caesar, which did not end up happening, possibly due in part to notable fan uproar at the announcement in 2008.  In addition, Randy Couture confirmed the original cast as returning, but did not mention Terry Crews, who plays Caesar.

So, not confirmations, but it looks like Tony Jaa, 50 Cent and Megan Fox can be called firm ‘rumors’ for this film…
