They say that Cobra Kai will run for six seasons. This week, season four debuts (it’s already at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes), with Sensei Silver making his long-awaited return. But what about Mike Barnes? Speaking with Rolling Stone, co-creator Jon Hurwitz says:
“His name has been thrown around the writers’ room from the very beginning,” says Hurwitz. “We didn’t want to bring him in like, ‘OK, we have Terry Silver. Let’s just bring in Mike Barnes in the same kind of context.’ We wanted to find a fresh and interesting way to bring Barnes into the story, and perhaps at some point we’ll do so.”
With two seasons left to go and the series relying strongly on past characters, given the size of Barnes’ character in this series, it’s pretty much a certainty. Barnes defeated Daniel LaRusso in a street fight, with LaRusso defeating Barnes in a tournament only after being instructed to deliberately lose points.
Sean Kanan has aged very well. Here’s Barnes fighting it out with some Texas Rangers.
Hilarious episode, by the way. Kanan plays a character who is pretty much Barnes, again… being a villainous manly man who doesn’t take no for an answer from women.
