The Top Ten Movie Pickup Trucks

4) 1973 Chevrolet C-10 Stepside – The Driver (1978)

The pickup that appears in this movie is the ‘second star’ and the chosen set of wheels for the main star, the modified Chevy Stepside.  The chase sequence with this vehicle is superb, no gearhead should miss it.  It’s a beautiful machine, probably down to it’s simplicity – lowered at the front on white 15″ steel rims and snarling through L.A with its big block 400.  Manual transmission of course.  Real men don’t do automatic.  This isn’t a 4×4 but is rear wheel drive, which is how the owner got away with lowering it at the front.  A very similar vehicle is driven by Kyle Reese in The Terminator, but this one is filmed much better, sounds better and is part of some really underrated chase scenes.

The remake of this movie, with Ryan Gosling, had nothing like this.  Executive BMWs?  With Ryan Gosling?  Ryan O’Neal did it so much better with half the effort…
