Blood Father Releasing March 2016

There has been some speculation about the release date of Blood Father, Mel Gibson’s next movie.  It was originally set for a Q4 2015 theatrical slot, in France at least.  A new date seems to have been settled on with ScreenDaily calling it for March 2016.

The Canadian distributor has announced its 2016 film line-up with a slate that includes Jean-François Richet’s Blood Father starring Mel Gibson and Elvis & Nixon starring Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey.

Blood Father premieres in March and stars Gibson as a screw-up father attempting to rescue his teen daughter from her drug kingpin boyfriend.

In the movie Gibson’s daughter, played by Erin Moriarty, is accused by her drugs kingpin boyfriend of stealing from him.  He sets out to kill her and make an example, but Moriarty calls her old man for help who is a biker.  Awesome synopsis.

The US release is important. Get The Gringo was VOD in US but theatrical elsewhere. If the powers that be can deny Mel US distribution he’ll be stuck in the Nic Cage ghetto….maybe even Segal territory. . Blood Father was shot in a month.

The very excellent Bone Tomahawk was made under the same schedule. Money is tight but digital has sped everything up…..and the credits on Mel’s flic are decent.I’m optimistic….but it is a small movie and Mel has enemies who will try to bury it in the US.

Bone Tomahawk was very good. This now makes me optimistic as well. Good for digital!

The ending was all over the place but the first three quarters of it is some of Mel’s best work. Great stuff…and it got dumped VOD in USA..It even managed to get a cinema release in Israel but not in US. That tells you something..Edge Of Darkness was good too.

Yeah..i rented the fucking thing & i was like “I’ve seen worst in the cinema in 3-D”.. i liked the movie.
“Edge of Darkness” was good. Very good performances by Mel & Ray Winstone.

LionsGate are protecting it more than a typical VOD plus the French distributors told me it’s going theatrical everywhere.
