For those of us who were running around in the 90s.. “The Reality Bites” soundtrack was huge and you could not escape the hits of the album. Wether on the radio or MTV, the songs & or videos were on heavy rotation.
    Like this one.

Overall when I watched this trailer (I am guy who gave night rider the tip on this) I thought it looked decent maybe good depending on script + how it is directed.
I think for me this is the problem with modern action films without any sci-fi/fantasy or horror elements is hard to make them that interesting compared to what has already been made.
Unless you have a script as good as something like heat/the usual suspects/die hard (first one), lethal weapon (first one) then I can’t see how any modern R rated action film without that is going to be that memorable.
Quality action alone is not enough IMHO for a very good/excellent action film.

I understand your point very well. So many things have been done already thats very hard to surprise audiences anymore.

If you look at the films of yesteryear that we love so much, lots of them are not quality masterpieces per se but they are fun films. Heck I would even say that so many films from the 80s were proud to be cheesy. They had a sense of fun about them that a lot of today’s films don’t seem to have.

Even comedies. For example say “Adventures in Babysitting” from 1987. It’s basically kids been afraid of the hood and parts of the city, now well, that would be deemed “racists” this & that, the brother tells his Thor loving sister that Thor is a homo, etc .Real talk can’t be realized on film or TV anymore for the most part cause of political correctness and that hurts the enjoyment of the product.

I love “The Last Boy Scout” for example & what made that movie great for me was not only the action but Bruce Willis firing great one liners like a champion. That kinda fun seems to be missing from movies nowadays.

The Last Boyscout script cost was like 10 Million if you adjust for 2017 inflation. One of the best action movie ever too.

Now movies are made with shitty 10 thousand dollars script……..and mostly pg13 shit

The Last Boy Scout cause a bidding war among Studios.. now I don’t think anybody will be making it.
            At least not that way.

Shane Black should do another film like The Last Boy Scout. The Nice Guys was a bit like it.

this was released on VOD around a month ago… it was quite good, probably one of my favorites of this year. The story is kind of weak but the action is great and Ethan Hawke is solid too.
