Top Five: (Real) Action Heroines
3) Private Jenette Vasquez (Aliens)
Who doesn’t know this one? The first of the Cameron women and the character Michelle Rodriguez only wishes she was convincingly type-cast as. Hey Rodriguez, you know even Vasquez smiles once in a while? But whatever. Cameron pushes the envelope with this one, I doubt anyone but him and Goldstein (or Hamilton) could’ve pulled it off. Really, her character speaks for itself. In fact the Vasquez character works so well, I don’t think we could’ve had her eventual death any other way.
Vasquez is a real Marine and yep, Cameron was right to have her martyred for the sake of her Unit. And y’know, it’s all so effortless. Before she has even touched a gun, she’s convincing. I bet Cameron kicked around the idea of having this girl play a Terminator in the year or two leading up to Terminator 2.
