TWILIGHT’S LAST GLEAMING (1977)
As we’re seeing in this list, the 1970’s is a good decade for adults to raid for under appreciated films. Here is another where America comes to terms with the ghosts of Vietnam.
It is The Rock (1996), but 20 years earlier, as Burt Lancaster, a disgruntled ex serviceman, leads a troop of malcontents and patriots in an assault on a nuclear power plant. They take it over with a list of demands ready for the president.
Expect scenes fraught with tension, although the split-screen work might be a bit jarring for some. Better to seek out the longer version of this movie, the shorter version (the sub-2 hour one) is a bit disjointed and doesn’t flow as it should.
