Mel Gibson Location Scouting In Australia

There are two Mel Gibson movies on the horizon.  The first is Blood Father, directed by Jean-François Richet (Mesrine).  The second is a WW2 movie which he is going to direct called Hacksaw Ridge.  Thankfully, the first is as locked as the second and isn’t one of those development hell pipe dreams.  The movie will shoot this September in Australia.

Where exactly?  Ballarat, Victoria is one possible locale, for those in the area interested.  Mel was spotted in the area recently location scouting for the movie.  One Twitter user spotted the GOAT and decided to stalk him, naturally.

“I actually walked up to Mel as he was about to leave and addressed him as Mr Gibson and introduced myself as the entertainment coordinator. I asked him if it was OK if we took a photo. He happily obliged. I grabbed the nearest bar tender, who is the now almost-famous Lachie.” Kelava, who met him, admitted he was a “little star struck” and that there had already been some discussion about renaming the beef burger “the Mel burger”.

Ballarat is a Victorian city, so it has some of the more seasoned buildings you’re going to see in that area, which would probably fit for an urban WW2 setting.  In the movie, WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people and becomes the first Conscientious Objector in American history to win the Congressional Medal of Honor.
