There’s more trouble for John McTiernan, probably the manliest director of all time. Having run the gauntlet for over ten years now with a legal scandal not of his making, ultimately ending in a term in a federal gulag, McT now faces foreclosure on his home and bankruptcy.
“McTiernan’s lone residence, the ranch valued at $10 million, is in foreclosure and he has filed for bankruptcy protection, according to filings that detail dwindling cash reserves, huge legal fees and an installment agreement with the IRS to pay off tax debt.”
Sure, all those years of legal hassle take their financial toll. Makes sense. But what is admirable though is that McT refuses to cash in. He didn’t take the first offer thrown at him and for Red Squad, the most expensive production in Hannibal Classics’ history, McTiernan rejected the script multiple times until it was to his liking.
Now gentlemen, this man is the antithesis of a sellout. While some are shitting on their fans with through hubris and gluttony, it’s fitting that the director of Die Hard, who stared down bullying prison guards to stand up for his fellow inmates, refuses to cheap out. Even in financial peril.
Manly Man: John McTiernan
