Diesel Wants Furious 8 About ‘Racing’ Like 1st

I wrote a while back on this site that The Fast & The Furious had stagnated and become too ridiculous and that they needed to go back to its roots.  Getting the director Rob Cohen back was probably a good idea too.  Apparently Vin Diesel is having similar thoughts, rooting for Cohen’s return to direct the 8th movie, but also so that he can reel the series back down to earth.

Diesel adds to his Facebook that his mother told him: “Either you direct 8 yourself…or don’t do it,” but that Paul Walker had always wanted Rob Cohen to come back (“I believe that he can and would reset the franchise nicely, returning to what was the core of the film in the beginning…racing.”).

According to Deadline, Universal do not want Rob Cohen to return.  Instead they are looking for either Ericson Core (director of the new Point Break movie) or Louis Leterrier, who directed the first two Transporter movies.  So who knows, maybe there’s a power struggle on at the minute.
