25 Years Ago This Weekend… The Rookie

A quarter of a century ago this weekend a most manly of movies hit cinemas with The Rookie.  Clint Eastwood starred alongside Charlie Sheen in the violent buddy cop movie, where both men try to take down Raúl Juliá, but not before Eastwood gets it on with Juliá’s woman.

The film was panned by critics and considered a box office bomb, ranking at 56th for 1990.  But hey, 1990 was a strong year, especially for sequels.

The Rookie was directed by Clint Eastwood and I think you’ll find that if you re-visit it or check it out for the first time, that it isn’t deserving of the hate that it got all those years ago.  It’s a good movie and has aged well.  The scene where Sheen returns to a bar where locals insulted him and burns it to the ground is one of the best of 1990.
