It looks like this series just can’t catch a break. Filming of the original did not go smoothly, with huge re-shoots (which ultimately helped the movie though) and Brad Pitt narrowly saving an extra from being crushed.
Now the sequel is having trouble too. Juan Antonio Bayona, the director, has apparently signed off from duties for this movie. The studio is apparently hell bent on getting this one ready for a June 9th 2017 release, but Bayona said he needed more time because he has commitments on the Felicity Jones and Liam Neeson-led film he just finished.
As a result, the studio is proceeding without him and say in a statement: ‘Bayona is no longer able to make World War Z 2 this year, and it is our ambition to do so. He is a wonderful director and we hope to work with him soon.’
I hope they get a sequel to this one going, but perhaps they should consider easing off on the CGI.
