Mel Gibson Turned Down Role In ‘Thor’

Mel Gibson’s ‘Blood Father’ is set to have a special presentation at the Sydney Film Festival in a few weeks.  And to promote it he has been doing some talking, including having and interview with The Guardian.  Apparently Mel was offered the role of Thor’s father in the movie of the same name.  A role that ultimately went to Anthony Hopkins.  He also says;

“Some are good. Some are kind of funny … ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ Or the first ‘Iron Man.’ And some of them are just like [retreads]. I mean you can watch them do Spider-Man five times … There is a slight shift in film. But, then again, I think all films are suffering from people not being able to now open them with their name. It’s a different kind of business these days.”

Looking back, Thor has shrunk to 54% on Metacritic, which sounds about right to me or even generous.  Therefore we can deduce that Mr. Gibson is indeed a wise man.  Even though he could’ve benefited from a movie that was going to get corrupt praise whether it sucked or not, he didn’t want to appear in a sucky movie.
