Johnny Knoxville appears to pop up in manly movies from time to time, some might even say he pops up often. Since I heard a rumor last week that Johnny Knoxville is possibly to star in John McTiernan’s comeback movie Warbirds, it just reminded me that, well, here he is again. Johnny Knoxville.
I was wondering, what is everyone’s opinion on Johnny Knoxville, or more accurately, how he repeatedly appears in movies in our niche?
Personally, I’m going to have to go ahead and answer to the question of whether I dig this guy’s repeated appearances in manly movies… negatory! It’s always a case of ‘Oh, there’s a new movie with such and such, could be good. And it also stars, oh. That asshat’.
I remember back in the day when they were talking about doing a remake of Walking Tall, with WWF Attitude loudmouth The Rock. It sounded good because it had a nice premise and The Rock was a badass, but I had a mild sinking feeling when Johnny Knoxville was announced and actually appeared. Then in the movie, Knoxville just grated on me, like some gangly pest, I simply wanted him to go away.
Then they announced a Dukes of Hazard remake and for that, I was less excited but curious all the same, I knew it was likely going to suck but the original was fun. Until this asshat again shows up. I didn’t go to see it, or even rent it, but when it eventually appeared on (terrestrial, not even satellite) TV, about 10 minutes was all I could endure.
After that, we had the long awaited return of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was set to get back to business with a director of strong repute in The Last Stand. By all reports it was set to be a cool action movie and I think it was actually not as bad as people said. But man. Johnny Knoxville. There that fucker was again, an answer to a question nobody asked and someone with zero chemistry with Arnold Schwarzenegger. How the fuck do you appear in a movie with The Rock or Arnie and not gel with them? Once again, Knoxville was a ball and chain.
Now he may appear in Warbirds alongside John Travolta. In what capacity, I don’t know. If it’s true, perhaps it could be in a serious role. I have never personally seen Knoxville try to act seriously in a movie so I don’t know, maybe John McTiernan can get something out of him. But I’d rather he just didn’t appear.
The only thing I care to see Johnny Knoxville do is let himself get shot, thrown off piers and chased by crazed boars. You?
