TRAILER: Blade of the Immortal (2017)

Check out the bloody red-band trailer for the Japanese supernatural samurai film Blood of the Immortal, directed by cult filmmaker Takashi Miike. The film is a live-action adaptation of the bloodily violent and darkly comedic manga of the same name by Hiroaki Samura, which ran from 1993 to 2012.

Synopsis:
Manji is a cursed samurai who apparently cannot be killed by any injury and who has to kill 1000 evil men in order to regain his mortality. He crosses paths with Rin Asano, whose parents were killed by a group of master swordsmen, and promises to avenge their deaths.

Miike can be an absolutely batshit crazy filmmaker for the most part (1999’s Audition , 2001’s Ichi the Killer and 2015’s Yakuza Apocalypse are grounds to classify him as mentally insane), but when he disciplines his craft, he can make exceptionally good action gems such as 2010’s massively overlooked 13 Assassins, which is, in my opinion, one of the best action films of the decade.

Blade of the Immortal was released in its native Japan on the 29th of April earlier this year and will later debut in both U.K. and U.S. cinemas on November.
