James Cameron has been briefly talking about Terminator 6, which should really be called Terminator 3. Cameron says super computers are bad… ‘but’, hinting that Skynet has perhaps developed a conscience?
“We’re developing a new Terminator film. And The Terminator films are all about artificial intelligence. But I would say we’re looking at it differently than when I wrote the first story in 1982. That was just your classic ‘technology bad, smart computers bad’ kind of thing. Nowadays though – it’s got to be a much more nuanced perspective. So its ‘Smart computers bad… BUT…’ That’s the new motif.”
Cameron also compared the Avatar series to a family version of The Godfather. I wouldn’t agree with that, Jimmy. The Godfather films are a feast, whereas Avatar was an aesthetic trip that I wouldn’t revisit again.
The gap between Avatar 1 and 2 is the longest Cameron has gone without making a film. Nine years, which seems like a waste…
