Trailer: Cancelled Tremors TV Series (2018)

PREVIOUSLY: It has not been a good run for Tremors in these latest years.  On top of the horrible VODquels, which are inexplicably PG-13 despite not having theater runs, the last release of the original movie on Blu-Ray that I reviewed was horribly lazy.

A bit of light broke through for the franchise when original co-star Kevin Bacon got all enthusiastic about a reboot, or ‘bootquel’.  But it would come in TV format.

Vincenzo Natali (Hannibal) would direct for Jason Blum’s Blumhouse TV and Universal Cable Prods.  Kevin Bacon would star, it was also said that Fred Ward would also appear in the pilot, but I had not seen evidence of that.

Well, it turns out that the pilot has been filmed, but that’s about all she wrote already.  Here is what Kevin Bacon updated Instagram with:

Sad to report that my dream of revisiting the world of Perfection will not become a reality. Although we made a fantastic pilot (IMHO) the network has decided not to move forward. Thanks to our killer cast and everyone behind the scenes who worked so hard. And always keep one eye out for GRABOIDS!

Worse, the studio has no intention of uploading or distributing the pilot in any format.

In this ill-fated series, the graboids are back, and the town’s only hope for survival is Valentine McKee (Bacon), who beat them once. But to do it again he’ll have to overcome age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex.

Emily Tremaine played the role of Emily McKee, the whip-smart daughter of Val (Bacon) with a bright future ahead of her. She is newly graduated and stops by Perfection to visit her dad, but quality time with him is the standard disappointment, as Emily sinks further into the understanding that he’ll never change.

There was also a ‘Mindy Sterngood’, a charismatic young doctor with an eyebrow-raising fixation on the much-older Val (Bacon), who saved her from a Graboid at age nine. But Mindy’s hiding something that makes her an unanticipated threat: compelling as she is, more cunning is her mask.

Of course, this is not the first time Tremors has moved to television…

Incidentally, there’s another Tremors movie out next week.  It’s called Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell, another Don Michael Paul (…) effort.  The sequel finds Burt Gummer and his son Travis at a remote research station, where they must go up against Graboids that have been converted into living weapons.
