Two pieces of news emerge that give more cause for concern about Disney’s growing hegemony and foul application of that power. First, respected pop culture analyst The Quartering asks us whether or not Disney is buffing ticket sales for the new Star Wars movie in the video above. Subscribers of TQ then go on to speculate that Disney has been doing the same with Marvel movies. More fake ticket sales?
The second piece of negative news is Disney’s plans to place classic Fox movies under lock and key. Movies that’ll include Alien and Fight Club will be made ‘unavailable’. The new ‘artificial scarcity’ will deny willing cinemas the ability to lease Fox movies as part of an apparent wider move to force people to get in line with Disney’s new streaming aspirations.
So, artificially weakening classics and artificially buffing new, bloated kitsch garbage.
