It feels like it’s been 20 years since The Sopranos ended. Nothing has come close since, so we had to compromise. Now David Chase is giving another blast of it with this prequel movie, with a featurette for The Many Saints of Newark.
The trailer has debuted to much aplomb, with many surprised. All I know is, Quasimodo predicted all of this.
Directed by Alan Taylor (director of many episodes of the original show), the film will ‘take a look at the formative years of New Jersey gangster, Tony Soprano.’ The young Tony will be played by James Gandolfini’s real son, Michael Gandolfini.
In the trailer, Soprano does not appear to have the makings of a varsity athlete. However it shows the boy’s leadership skills as a strong and (probably not so) silent type.
The pandemic sent the movie’s release askew, so it had to be rescheduled to October 1st 2021, its new release date. So that is not a night you’ll want to be up in the club, or playing stupid fucking games.
