Here is the first trailer for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. It looks like cheap crap.
Directed by Johannes Roberts, it’s the first (and last?) entry in the reboot of the series. Some time ago, Roberts talked a big game about returning the series to its roots, making it a lower key horror affair, as opposed to schlock from Paul W.S. Anderson.
Yet, despite such talk from Roberts, what we see in the trailer is a lot of pew pew boom boom, with unbelievably bad CGI and suspect casting decisions. Oh well, I warned recently that the Brothers Strausse made similar promises (when they promised to undo Anderson’s other bed-shitting with AVP) with AVP:R, only to deliver an eerily similar looking turd of their own and that this could be similar.
But listen, the inclusion of a pop number from ‘4 Non Blondes‘ in a Resident Evil trailer is the kiss of death, what kind of a director would okay such a decision. Or worse, suggested it himself? It reminds me on Harry Knowles’ dire warning when he saw a sneak peak of an AVP (2004) trailer, when he said the inclusion of generic rock music into a Predator/Alien trailer was the worst possible omen (fuck, was he right!).
