TOP GUN: MAVERICK PASSES 1 BILLION

Top Gun: Maverick has surpassed one billion.  It is the first movie of this year to do so and only the second since the virus hysteria began (the other being Spiderman: No Way Home).  What’s more impressive is that the movie did it in 31 days.

It is also not playing in Russia or China, the latter being a significant revenue source.

The coveted ‘One Billion Club’ is crowded and not what it used to be.  Almost fifty movies have done it now.  But consider that the majority of those are comic book movies, or children’s movies like Frozen II.  This movie is pretty much aimed at males of a certain age, and they have bought it.  When something is bought, more will be produced and a market is (re?)born.

What other ‘guy’ movies are in there?  A couple of ‘Furious’ movies.  So Top Gun: Maverick has done us all a solid.
