Netflix, which bought the rights to Beverly Hills Cop 4, is making a change in the release of the movie according to MovieHole. The movie is going to be put in theaters before they allow their subscribers to check it out via streaming.
This is an apparent indicator of confidence in the movie.
Also, the movie is temporarily moving production to Detroit, where it’ll be partially filmed. When this began, Detroit was in the midst of a heavy snow storm. Which is interesting because when I was in contact with someone involved in production with an earlier aborted attempt on this movie, Foley’s return to Detroit was set in a historically severe snow storm. I wonder if this is the same script being used.
News on this movie is slim. However, back in those days this movie was said to be ‘hard R’, not just ‘R’.
Other news, another rumor only by the way, is that Beverly Hills Cop 4‘s apparent quality/clout is prompting Netflix to revive another 1980s Eddie Murphy ‘franchise’ series. No-one is clarified what this is, or even proven the rumor, but my first thought would be 48 Hrs.
For anyone wondering, the last rumored ‘pitch’ for a third 48 Hrs movie (and this was a very, very long time ago) had Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy) attempt to get Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) out of jail, or something. An inversion of the prior movies, if you will.
