POLL: Should Rambo Die In Last Blood?

Rambo: Last Blood is upon us, maybe even sooner than we thought.  And you gotta wonder, does the title ‘Last Blood’ signify anything?

I remember 19 years ago at school, my friends and I, not even teenagers yet, were excited about Die Hard With A Vengeance.  And there was a persistent rumor that John McClane bought the farm, that he died hard in the upcoming movie.  This was before the internet broadcast everything, often before it even happened.

But I digress.

Rambo is another character like McClane.  He is not a normal human, not a civilian.  He is drawn to violence like a fly to shit and since this is his last outing (c’mon, Stallone is not 40 anymore), I think we should be having a real discussion on whether or not John J. goes out in a blaze of glory.  Here is what Stallone said two years ago:

It’s one thing where you lay down the final culmination of your life where you can articulate it, but also act on it where [Rambo] realizes what his destiny really is. It’s not to be a farmer, it’s not to be obscure; it’s to go out in a blaze of glory in a heroic fashion. But is he really doing it for himself or is he doing it because that’s just his id? That’s who he is.”

He since retracted that opinion, but since it’s Stallone, he might have just as well returned to it.  Remember, not so long ago Stallone was ‘99.5% certain’ that Rambo V would not happen.

I think to kill Rambo would be a fitting end to the character.  Rambo settling down on that farm in Arizona is inappropriate.  Putting his life on the line is appropriate.  Supposedly Rambo will take on exceptionally violent Cartel members in the rescuing of a female – although maybe that has changed.  I think it would be wrong to end Rambo with questions, such as what ever happened to Rambo?  Or did he settle down?  It would be bold however to put a giant period on it.  This is what happened, final chapter.  It would certainly help redeem Stallone’s action credentials after PG-13-gate.

So what about it?  Should Rambo go out in a blaze of glory, or keep on keepin’ on, since he “just wanted to go home” in the first movie?
