The Expendables spin off ‘The ExpendaBelles’ seems to be moving forward. Sylvester Stallone is now officially confirmed to be on board as producer and Robert Luketic will take on directorial duties. Last we heard the movie would take place in Brunei, South-East Asia where ‘The ExpendaBelles’ would be deployed against a rogue dictator.
Along with Stallone’s involvement and the new director, an (un)official synopsis comes from deadline.com, who I really shouldn’t credit as they blatantly took information from this site last year and credited themselves for it. Who is to know when it’s only a small niche site, eh, Deadline? But at any rate;
When America’s Navy SEALs are wiped out trying to penetrate the island lair of a deadly despot who has captured one of the world’s top nuclear scientists, it becomes clear that there is no such thing as the right man for the job and that this is a mission so impossible that only women can handle it. The only way in: some of the world’s deadliest female operatives must pose as high-class call-girls shipped in by private plane to satisfy a dictator–and instead save the scientist and the day.
High class call girls, eh? I think I’d possibly buy that for a dollar, maybe we’ll get some good ‘action’ after all, heh? The most interesting thing here though is whether or not this will officially be linked to the main movies. Probably is my guess – it would be free promotion. The possibility of that, along with Sly’s involvement, is the only reason it’s being reported on here. The other good thing is that this movie keeps Lerner’s attempts to draw in a female audience for the main movies a seperate temptation. Although this new ExpendaBelles venture would be pointless without one of the Top Five REAL Action Heroines.
