We know that Rocky will be getting a ‘sidequel’ soon in the form of Creed, which you can read about here. It’ll basically follow the career of Apollo Creed’s son played by Michael B. Jordan, Stallone will reprise his role as Rocky but is keen to insist it isn’t a ‘Rocky’ movie.. It seems that this won’t be the only new spin off though…
There are plans to make a de-facto prequel to Rocky in the form of a Mickey Goldmill origins story. The movie, tentatively called ‘Angel on My Shoulder’, “turns the spotlight on orphaned turn of the century immigrant Mickey Goldmill as he makes his way through the corrupt world of boxing in a bid to earn his self-respect and ultimately confront his father’s killer in the ring.” Sounds Manly as fuck! A young Mickey handling his business in a revenge situation? Sign us up.
The movie is apparently being written by a certain Carl Kirshner who supposedly has at least one award under his belt. Not sure about the studio forcing him to cut violence from the movie, but then again Rocky was never Rated-R and he maintains that the movie is still ‘staggeringly brutal’. You can read the full interview with the writer here at via totalrocky.com.
