Writer Talks Rocky Spin-Off Movie ‘Creed’

Have you heard that there’s another Rocky movie coming?  Well there is, kind of.  While Rambo is supposedly getting a TV series spin-off (alarm bells), Rocky is getting a movie spin-off, Creed.  It’ll be the story of Apollo Creed’s son pursuing a boxing career, like his father.  Writer Ryan Coogler has been talking about this feature with WSJ.com.  “I came up with this film in a very personal way.  “I came up with this really crazy idea, this really small personal story that takes place in a universe that we are familiar with.”

Sylvester Stallone will also be in it as Rocky Balboa, probably as an extended cameo, but his role could be larger.  “Rocky is an incredibly human story and ‘Creed’ is very inspired by the Rocky lore, but there’s something kind of profound in letting it all go.”  In the summer, Stallone also confirmed his involvement: “Rocky is retired, kind of set adrift. He’s very lonely in his world. His life has gone by waiting for the inevitable.  It’s not Rocky 7”.  Creed Jr. will be played by Michael B. Jordan.
