Mel’s ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ Shoots This September

We reported recently that things were moving with Mel Gibson’s upcoming WW2 thriller ‘Hacksaw Ridge’, with IM Global coming aboard to pitch the movie to international buyers.  Now, something more concrete.

Mel will return to his old stomping ground Down Under in Australia to film the movie.  The producers are Pandemonium Films’ Bill Mechanic, Lightstream Pictures’ Paul Currie and Icon’s Bruce Davey, Gibson’s business partner.  ScreenCorp’s James M Vernon is the executive producer.  Randall Wallace, who wrote Braveheart, is penning the screenplay.

The film covers the actions of Desmond Doss, the real life character who despite being a conscientious objector won the Medal of Honor.  Hopefully Mel is afforded more respect and courtesy in Australia than he receives in America, I have a feeling things will go well.  Mel doesn’t sign on for any old movie, despite not having directed since 2006 (Apocalypto), his hiatus hasn’t entirely been down to being ‘blacklisted’, but like John McTiernan, also not being a sell out.
