It was announced earlier this week that the Bourne Legacy 2 had been delayed. This led to rumors today courtesy of LatinoReview, that the reason behind this was that they were bringing back Matt Damon to the gritty spy series.
Frank Marshall has now come out to debunk this.
It [the Damon rumor] is simply not true. [Director] Justin Lin is working with Andrew Baldwin on an Aaron Cross script/story that they pitched us a few months ago. I talk to Justin all the time and the script is not ready. It’s a summer movie, and if we don’t start pre-production now, we can’t make next summer. Therefore, it’s a wise decision to move to 2016.
My bet here is that they are going to possibly bring Jeremy Renner back and include Matt Damon in some capacity. It’s possible both sources are accurate. Both men working together against the government would sell tickets, ensembles are all the rage these days anyway.
