As someone who has followed the career of the ‘The Corporate Champ’ (real Rock fans are familiar with that one) since around 97/98, I can attest that the man has some exceptional comedic skills. So it’s mildly annoying to see him lumber about and be so serious in certain recent movies – but not as annoying as seeing him appear in family-friendly action. One of his first movies, The Rundown (2003), was an action comedy. Didn’t particularly care for it myself, not just because it was PG-13, but it was kinda weak overall. Either way, will he be in a sequel?
Director of the original, Peter Berg, seems hopeful. “I really want to do it. I’ve talked to Dwayne. I have an actor in mind that I can’t say that I want to work with Dwayne on it, and we want to do it”, Berg told Collider.com. It’s worth reporting since The Rock is probably the biggest action star right now, but again, while I think he should do more comedy, I think harder action should be his priority. Sadly, don’t see it happening until he’s much older and has to go after a more niche audience… guess who that is….
