The Producers Sales Organization was a company that handled international distribution of independent films. It was founded in 1977 and filed for bankruptcy in 1986. Eventually the library they had found its way to LionsGate. Some time ago, Mel Gibson bought the catalogue from LionsGate.
Among the movies he now owns the rights to are the following:
Matilda (1978)
The Wanderers (1979)
Little Lord Fauntleroy (1980)
The Final Countdown (1981)
Das Boot (1981)
An American Werewolf in London (1981)
Dead and Buried (1981)
Endless Love (1981)
Young Doctors in Love (1982)
Cujo (1983)
The Day After (1983)
Fire and Ice (1983)
Never Say Never Again (1983)
The Outsiders (1983)
Silkwood (1983)
La Traviata (1983)
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension (1984)
The Neverending Story (1984)
Once Upon a Time in America (1984)
Prizzi’s Honor (1985)
8 Million Ways to Die (1986)
Flight of the Navigator (1986)
9½ Weeks (1986)
Short Circuit (1986)
Some of those are very interesting and notable movies to be in possession of, particularly the selections in bold. All of them now belong to Mel Gibson and Icon Productions. Given that Mel Gibson is a genius director, President of Icon and that remakes are all the rage nowadays, how awesome would it be to see him tackle some of those bad boys.
We can dream…
