It seems that John McTiernan’s next movie, Red Squad, still could be struggling to gain traction. Could be, being the operative words there. The movie was due to shoot late April, then June, then August. Along with that the cast was supposed to be announced late March, then at Cannes.
Well Cannes officially ended yesterday and we still have not received a presser for the full cast.
Previously, John McTiernan had rejected the script for the movie multiple times causing it to be delayed, it was not to his satisfaction. That’s a good thing because it just proves that McTiernan is no sellout and will only make a movie if it has good foundations. I wonder… is that still an issue for this movie?
What it’s more likely to be is that the casting process is simply a scheduling juggling act. The best information out there right now is that the movie will shoot in August and is the biggest production in Hannibal Classics’ history. The previous rumoured cast has been Nicolas Cage, Al Pacino and Colin Farrell. Cage sounds likely because he seems to be contracted to Hannibal Classics. But the guy reeks of a DTV-soaked bender, I wouldn’t be unhappy if someone else was the lead…
