Dolph Lundgren Attending Universal Soldier/Rocky IV Screenings

If you happen to live in Los Angeles, you’ll have a chance to catch a special double screening of Universal Soldier and Rocky IV on the 27th of this month.  Between both movies, Dolph will make an appearance to discuss them.  The event will take place at the Egyptian Theatre at 7:30pm.  Tickets can be purchased here.

Presented by the American Cinematheque, Dammaged Goods, and Humans From Earth
Discussion between films with actor Dolph Lundgren, moderated by Geoff Boucher.

UNIVERSAL SOLDIER
1992, Sony Repertory, 102 min, USA, Dir: Roland Emmerich
Two of the 1990s’ biggest action stars – Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren – do battle in this highly entertaining sci-fi film. Luc Deveraux (Van Damme) and Andrew Scott (Lundgren) are Special Forces operatives shot dead in Vietnam and resurrected by a Pentagon program to create superhuman fighters. The reanimated soldiers are drugged to suppress past memories … but that doesn’t quite erase the fact that Deveraux and a deranged Scott had killed each other.

ROCKY IV
1985, Park Circus/MGM, 91 min, USA, Dir: Sylvester Stallone
In the biggest box office hit of the ROCKY series, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) is killed in the ring by Soviet heavyweight Ivan Drago (a very imposing Dolph Lundgren), and Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) travels to Russia to avenge his old friend’s death in an epic 15-round bout. Made while Cold War tensions were high, ROCKY IV shamelessly waves the U.S. flag, but when James Brown sings “Living in America,” you’ll feel like doing the same.

Screening format: 35mm (UNIVERSAL SOLDIER) and Blu-ray (ROCKY IV)
