There’s a nasty rumour floating around. A rumour most foul and heinous, and we’re going to relay it here.
The story goes that Griffin Newman (Beware the Gonzo) is appearing in Beverly Hills Cop IV as Axel Foley’s adopted son. The rumour first surfaced on the IMDb where the actor was listed in the cast section, which shouldn’t have been taken too seriously as supposedly, that can be edited by the public.
Other sites such as Metacritic have now followed suit and listed Griffin Newman as Axel Foley, Jr. This rumour has been fuelled and facilitated by the actor himself. Here’s a tweet from last month:
BEVERLY HILLS COP IV: AXEL FOLEY’S SON IS A WHITE JEW WHO COLLECTS STICKERS #Griff4BHC4
— Griffin Newman (@GriffLightning) May 2, 2014
So naturally ManlyMovie fired off a tweet asking this man what was up, to which the response comes:
@manlymovie You’ll have to wait and see…

Initial inclinations here are that this guy is trolling, and maybe even edited the IMDb entry himself. That is what’s most likely. However… is nothing sacred anymore, and would we really be surprised by this fucking shit? With retro action movies, pissing in the soup with ‘young cast additions’ is all the rage. In Live Free or Die Hard, they had a daughter and some young nerd with a crush on her as McClane’s sidekick. In A Good Day to Die Hard, the old ‘son’ chestnut. In The Expendables 3, well… we all know what’s going on there. No-mark Ronda Rousey gets screentime over Mel fucking Gibson.
Perhaps even worse though is the recent Beverly Hills Cop evidence. You think they can’t ruin this? Think again. The last screenplay for this movie had Rosewood get killed in the opening act. The mere rumour of it created such uproar on the net (fuelled by an enraged Clint Morris at MovieHole), they canned the whole project. Then, they went for a TV show. With… the ‘disgruntled son’ angle yet again. Foley got into some trouble with a son of his. It was so shit that CBS refused to even broadcast the pilot.
So… here’s hoping, don’t be true.
