John McTiernan will make a guest appearance at the 40th Deauvile American Film Festival, in France, this September.
Here is what the John McTiernan Newspage has to say:
“We are especially happy to announce that John McTiernan will be in France in early September for two exceptional events: First, he’ll be a guest at the 40th Deauvile American Film Festival. Then, and most importantly, the French Cinematheque will hold a retrospective of his works, with John in attendance, starting on September 10th (exact dates TBC). This recognition in the “temple of cinema” (as William Friedkin christened the Cinematheque) is one f the greatest honors France can bestow upon a director.
These last few years, filmmakers such as Sidney Lumet, William Friedkin, Steven Spielberg, Bernardo Bertolucci or the Coen brothers were all honored in a similar fashion. McT will give a masterclass as part of this event. This will be the perfect occasion for all his French (and even european !) fans to give him a warm welcome inside “the spiritual home of filmmakers all over the world” (Martin Scorsese).”
Very cool, but I worry slightly about Red Squad. It’s supposed to begin filming a few weeks before this, in August. Is that still going ahead? Who knows. I can tell you that our line to the studio on that one has seemingly gone dead. They once informed us to keep an eye out for a cast reveal late April. Well, it’s July. And now they won’t speak of the movie at all…
