Trench And Yin Yang: Gay Lovers?

It seems that certain people and sources really want Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jet Li’s Expendables 3 characters to be gay.

At the end of The Expendables 3, as you’ve probably seen, Arnold and Jet share a scene where they insinuate that something ‘more’ is going on between them.  The website Grantland asked director Patrick Hughes whether or not both characters were gay.  His response was “I believe they are”.

Now a ton of websites have taken the response literally and word is spreading that The Expendables 3 now features gay action heroes.  Such as here, here, here, here and here.  You get the point.

It’s clearly a joke, so this article is not to question whether or not Trench and Yin Yang are queer.  And Hughes’ response was clearly sarcastic, you can tell that even without hearing the audio.  The ‘ambiguity’ (if there is any) probably wasn’t helped either by the butcher-shop editing of that movie.  It’s a movie often stripped of context.

But either way, the story is now spreading across the net that Arnie and Jet are playing gay action men, in this latest movie.  And you know what?  Half of the sources spreading it, I’m sure, have probably not even seen the movie.  But boy do they want it to be true.  I’m not really going to get too political here, so I think the word of relevance for today is “projection”.
