At a 30th anniversary screening of The Terminator last night, due to feature both Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron were due to entertain fans. Schwarzenegger didn’t show up due to illness, but he wasn’t fucking fans over, he filmed a message from his sickbed looking half dead. James Cameron spoke of two important things. The first is the upcoming movie, Terminator: Genisys. During the event, when asked about the movie, Cameron remarked:
“I’m friendly with the filmmakers, the writer Laeta Kalogridis has worked with me on projects,” he said. “I’m hoping it’s great. I’d like them to get it right, and based on the script that I read there’s a pretty good chance that it could. It looks like it could be fun.”
But even more interesting is the fact that the rights to the franchise will revert to Cameron himself in 2019. Someone had the sense to ask Cameron what is going to happen when this time comes around. To which Cameron said:
“I haven’t really thought that far ahead yet. I’ve got plenty of time to think about it. It might be fun to completely re-invent the franchise,” he admits. “A lot has to do with what happens with it in the meantime, people may have Terminator fatigue.”
Terminator fatigue? No way. Shit movie fatigue, definitely. But another Terminator movie from Cameron?! The only thing that could rival that is Shane Black announcing John McTiernan as the director of his new Predator project. But seriously, don’t reboot it. Just give us the REAL Terminator 3…
