“The Interview” Playing At Some Venues This Week

It seems that Sony Pictures is set to screen the controversial James Franco-Seth Rogen comedy “The Interview” at Christmas after all.

The official social media feeds of both the Alamo Drafthouse and the Plaza Atlanta theater have said that Sony has authorized them to show the film on Christmas Day. They also indicate only a handful of theaters around the nation will show the film following the cancellation of the release in the wake of the major exhibitor chains opting out of the movie.

Variety aalso reports that there is growing speculation that the studio will offer the film via VOD. A few days ago Sony Pictures CEO Michael Lynton indicated that no on-demand providers had stepped forward to offer handling the film’s VOD release, but those circumstances may have changed.

Seth Rogen also responded to the news on Twitter, saying: “The people have spoken! Freedom has prevailed! Sony didn’t give up! The Interview will be shown at theaters willing to play it on Xmas day!”
