At the start of the year director Neill Blomkamp revealed concept art from a canned Alien 5 movie, featuring Cpl. Hicks and Lt. Ripley, from Aliens. He said it was safe to do so since the movie was not going to happen. That created a stir that positively got the movie greenlit again.
Of course, the question was how would Cpl. Hicks fit into the timeline given that not only was he pronounced dead in the third movie, but also a gap of 200 years had passed between Alien3 and the fourth movie.
Today, Sky Movies caught up with both talents and learned a few more details about their plans, which Weaver says will give Ripley “A proper ending.” Blomkamp hints, though, that the new film may ignore the continuity of both Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection.
“I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of ‘Alien,’” says the director. “So it’s ‘Alien,’ ‘Aliens’ and then this movie.”
Ballsy. Alien3 wasn’t as bad as most say, so it’ll be a challenge to top. In fact, this will take some serious adjusting to!
