Eddie Murphy Still Dismissive Of Beverly Hills Cop IV

It seems that Beverly Hills Cop IV is still teetering around development hell despite what we were told was a possible May start date, and a firm 2016 release date.  Eddie Murphy is still dismissive of the actual script for the movie.  Murphy says (again) that he’s not going to sell out for this movie just for a pay cheque.

‘Hey, Beverly Hills Cop! Axel Foley!’ They call me that shit. All the movies I’ve done, and they call me that. If we do that movie [Beverly Hills Cop 4], it has to be right. Not just thrown together to get a big check. I don’t need anymore of those.

Good to hear, unlike some glory and money hounds that made their names in the 1980s.  But it does make you wonder if this thing will ever get made.  But Murphy does speak of times and locations.

I don’t think it’s gonna happen in March, but it is gonna be in Detroit. And before it happens, they’ve got to get that script right. That movie has to be right.

The writer, Josh Appelbaum, previously wrote Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, which wasn’t bad at all as an action comedy (albeit a bit family orientated).  Cop IV will be R-rated or it will not be at all, according to both Jerry Bruckheimer and director Brett Ratner, so that’s one thing we can be confident about – no dirty tricks such as somebody timing a late PG-13 announcement deliberately alongside some highly expensive street theatrics, in the hopes that no-one notices.

One other thing.  They need to get as many of the original cast members as possible back and yes, that includes Sidney Bernstein!
