I dunno about you, but I enjoy the fuck out of those Wolf Creek movies. Some find them funny, others find them offensive. Here’s what Roger Ebert said about the first movie:
I had a hard time watching “Wolf Creek.” It is a film with one clear purpose: To establish the commercial credentials of its director by showing his skill at depicting the brutal tracking, torture and mutilation of screaming young women. When the killer severs the spine of one of his victims and calls her “a head on a stick,” I wanted to walk out of the theater and keep on walking.
Evidently, Ebert was a girlie man with effete sensibilities. A second movie followed of course, where the main character, Mick Taylor, developed somewhat to show further dislike for ‘foreign bastards’, an interesting fellow for sure! And to follow the second movie? A TV series, potentially…
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Stan (a streaming service) is currently considering a six-episode television spin-off to the hit Australian horror film series, as a counter-attack to the upcoming launch of Netflix in that country. The show, if it goes ahead, will follow the second movie, but feature less gore and more suspense. Not sure if that’s a good sign, but it’s a good property so it has potential.
