Well we have a big car movie on the horizon, gentlemen, a car ’em up if you will. And for such an event we are going to take a closer look at the cars from Furious 7. There are a lot of cars in this movie and almost all of them exotic, those which are not are highly modified. You gotta love all of ’em and really, what real man does not love cars?
1970 Plymouth Barracuda
Thankfully this series has developed beyond mere imports and has long since introduced a healthy share of PAM. Pure American Muscle. And the best type too, the old school variant. Perhaps the Barracuda is an underrated monster so it is nice to see her appear here. If you check the end of the last movie, Fast and Furious 6, you can spot this car. Cars reappearing in this series is common as they come from the same crew which maintains them in one garage.
Ferarri 458 Italia/Bugatti Veyron
There are Ferarris in most of these movies. I think the third movie, set in Japan, which is actually a movie that runs closer to the sixth movie, is possibly the only to not feature one. There is no car manufacturer more famous than Ferarri. And the 458 Italia could well be the most sexy of their current lineup. Trailing the Pony is the monstrous Bugatti Veyron, the 250mph behemoth. That car made its screen debut in the rival series “Need for Speed” so I guess that the producers of this movie did not want to be upstaged!
Subaru Impreza WRX STI
Guess which admin of a movie site owns one of these? Hint: Possibly named after a maniac from a George Miller movie. Yes, we’re way down the food chain here, a budget entry if you will, with the tortoise-like Scooby. Well, it’s not so bad, after all it has been a choice of Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor for a while now. But other than that should I really mention such a car? In fact it is probably the slowest car on this list so far! Oh well it has AWD so I will concede that.
1970 Dodge Charger R/T
This car appeared several times throughout the series. The first appearance was in the original movie, then again in Fast & Furious and Fast Five, with a slight alteration in Fast Five. The fake supercharger from the first has been replaced with a smaller and less stupid one in Fast Five, but still fake. The only time the car had a real hemi engine was briefly in the original movie for a interior shot. It didn’t run though. To me this is the best manifestation of the vehicle. Everything is more subtle. It has been modernised quite nicely, removing some of the chrome overkill of the first appearance. It’s a pity they can’t introduce the car without repeatedly destroying it.
Aston Martin DB9
These cars haven’t changed over the years in appearance much. The atrocious gearbox being another addition to that list of “let’s not change”. But there’s a reason for that, it looks fine. Fine has Genesis Rodriguez’s ass. This appears to be the main choice of Deckard Shaw, the movie’s villain and played by Jason Statham. A British car for a British star you see. But it looks like it came off the worse in that head on collision, the first of two such impacts in the movie between these two it seems. Nice though, very nice car. When it’s in one piece. Nicer than a Subaru for example.
Lykan Hypersport
Let us move then into hypercar territory. The Lykan Hypersport makes its movie debut (?) in… style. This is the car from that skyscraper scene, which I believe could be a scene from their Dubai shoot. The difference between a supercar and hypercar? A good rule of thumb is often that one does 200mph and the other can manage 258mph, like this one. And 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. Sadly though I think the car in this current shot could very well be CGI. And we don’t like that.
Dodge Challenger SRT-8
And back to muscle car territory with this heavily modified Dodge Challenger. This is a 2011 model SRT and will put nasty levels of power through the fly. They appear to have modified the car for some type of hijacking sequence that will open the movie. I’m not sure about the colour however. I mean if you had a car like this would you drive around in Exorcist vomit green? Stats? 180mph with 60 coming in four seconds, out of the factory.
Audi R8
Finally I don’t think we could have a run down of Furious cars without mentioning Ze Germans. And as per their character, they may show up with charisma but not without muscle. An Audi R8 is to put it simply, a very, very fast automobile and has been known to slay riced out Mazdas and Subarus. Often without even knowing they were there. Actually it is kind of charismatic in its own way. The R8 is a nice car, even appeared in one of those Nolan Dark Knight movies did it not?
