This is a pretty interesting combination right here, should it come to fruition. Martin Scorcese directing a biopic on Mike Tyson. Jamie Foxx is set to play Iron Mike.
“I’m going to do the Mike Tyson story,” Foxx has told New York’s Power 105 radio show The Breakfast Club. “Listen, to be in the same room pitching Mike Tyson to Paramount, Mike Tyson is on one side, I’m on the other side and doing Mike Tyson at the same time. And Martin Scorsese at the helm. This will be the first boxing movie that Martin Scorsese has done since Raging Bull.”
The movie will cover the lows and highs of Tyson’s life and career, from his peak in the ring to the death of his daughter. Terence Winter has apparently written the script. Me, I say yes, bring it the fuck on. Long overdue and the wait could well be worth it, in waiting for the right man to direct (director of Raging Bull). Tyson is what got me into boxing as a kid in the 1990’s, I don’t really care about his extracurricular activities. The man’s matches are fascinating to watch and play in slow motion.
I’m not 100% sure about Jamie Foxx though. While Tyson has a demure side outside the ring, Foxx seems to carry it all the time. Can he bring Tyson’s killer instinct to the screen?
