A Big Trouble in Little China remake is on the cards and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is pegged to star, according to TheWrap.
Johnson and his producing partners at Seven Bucks Productions, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, pitched the remake to rights-owner Fox, which released the original film. Big Trouble in Little China is one of Johnson’s favorite movies, and Miller and Stentz have already closed a deal to write the script.
However John Carpenter, helmer of the original movie was not consulted. Later, The Rock said that they would consult him (after negative backlash). In an interview with The Wall Street Journal the highly-held horror helmer, when pressed on whether or not he was on board seemed rather dismissive. According to Carpenter:
I’m ambivalent about a remake. On the other hand, it depends on how much they pay me.
I think with that the prospects of this movie have gone down, The Rock is too savvy to board a remake that could very quickly develop into an Expendables 3/Terminator: Genisys-type quagmire, as far as fans are concerned. It’s good to see that fans still hold some sway with movies like this.
