Five Underrated Manly Movies: Part II
The Square (2008)
One night I caught this on television. Finding new, good movies on TV at random these days is increasingly rare. More and more people stream and know ahead of time if a film is going to be shit or good. This is an Australian thriller, slow tempo but high substance. They tend to be better at that than the whole blockbuster thing, the Austrlians – George Miller notwithstanding.
It’s a movie about a man having an affair with a mobster, who has a giant stash of drugs money. They both hatch a plan to steal the money from the mobster then flee, starting another life elsewhere. Of course, it doesn’t go to plan and soon enough there are bodies being buried in the dead of night and such. Good movie, treated harshly I thought.
