Five Underrated Manly Movies: Part II
Absolute Power (1997)
Following on from Part I, we’re going to shoot up another five manly movies that are underrated, unknown or both. In no particular order we are going to start with another movie featuring ultimate alpha beast Gene Hackman. And of course, Clint Eastwood.
I don’t know why, but this movie was kind of ill-treated when it came out. Still is. It has a 47% rating on RottenTomatoes, and that just isn’t right. It was a good movie back in the ’90s, but watching it again recently I thought, damn, this is almost a great movie. The film sees master thief Clint Eastwood become the target of White House kleptocrats after he witnesses the POTUS stiffing a broad.
The opening theft sequence is absolutely brilliant.
