Actor and accomplished blues musician Jake La Botz, who played Reece in Rambo IV, has just appeared as a somewhat ethereal Conway Twitty tribute artist in the surreal opening scene from the third installment of True Detective. I knew La Botz was a musician because he also does some singing in Rambo IV (Stallone insisted when he heard that the guy was a singer, according to the director’s commentary).
Some of his stuff is pretty good too, check it out if you like that kind of thing – www.jakelabotz.com – But at first I didn’t recognize him when I watched the episode the other night. Sure, the dude on stage looked familiar, but I was too busy exclaiming “That’s Fred Ward!” when he appeared as Detective Ray Velecro’s father in the same scene!
