Recently the director of Lone Survivor (great film!), Peter Berg, took issue with Bruce Jenner winning an ESPY Courage Award. Berg felt that there were other men more deserving of that accolade then posted a MEME on his Instagram account. Here is what it said:
‘One Man traded 2 legs for the freedom of the other to trade 2 balls for 2 boobs,’ the caption read. ‘Guess which Man made the cover of Vanity Fair, was praised for his courage by President Obama and is to be honored with the “Arthur Ashe Courage Award” by ESPN’?
Well, the man is in hot water now and has been asked to ‘clarify’ his comments, according to MSN. You know, the usual suspects have gone after him. It’s also kind of funny how the word ‘clarify’ is code for ‘recant’ and ‘or else’. I thought what he meant was clear enough right from the get go.
Berg stood down, sort of.
On Thursday, the moviemaker returned to social media to clarify his intentions behind posting the meme, writing, “I have the utmost respect for Caitlyn Jenner and I am a strong supporter of equality and the rights of trans people everywhere.
“I also believe that we don’t give enough attention to our courageous returning war veterans, many of whom have sacrificed their bodies and mental health for our country and our principals – principals that include the freedom to live the life you want to live without persecution or abuse.” Good to see that comment on veterans being re-iterated. Others would’ve grovelled more.
Hey, what about Peter Berg directing Rambo V? Watch Lone Survivor before crucifying me for that comment. Sylvester Stallone ain’t no spring chicken anymore to be pulling double duty.
