5) Give Us Respectable Bad Guys
Die Hard has been less than healthy in the 21st century. With DHINO, things got absurd with a super villain bringing down the USA. Destroying a Country? The fuck outta here! But worse than that, setting out to destroy a country with the age old ‘He’s doing it for the moneehy!’ swerve. Didn’t see that coming. Die Hard doesn’t need a supervillain. It needs a bad guy, a few of them. It needs a bad guy with sufficient motivation and an actor that can relay a certain amount of rage and danger. I mean it’s not that hard, is it?
I’ll tell you what. Timothy Olyphant was a weak villain, unbecoming of the Gruber Family or William Atherton. And in the fifth movie, well damn, can you even remember who the bad guy was? ‘Nuff said. So get a good actor once again who is going to reach for this thing by the neck.
