With a new Bond movie out this fall, there is naturally more talk about the series. “Spectre” is just around the corner and some new details have surfaced via Entertainment Weekly.
Director Sam Mendes was asked about how his previous Bond film “Skyfall” connects to the new one, and he indicated that his aim with the new one was to tell a kind of retroactive origin story:
“Bond has been rebooted at the end of [“Skyfall”]. This is only the beginning of the story. The Bond creation myth never happened. I felt there was an opportunity there: What made him? And who were the people who affected him along the way? You’re sort of telling the story backwards of how Bond became Bond. A lot of the film is a celebration of what it is to be Bond, but it’s not retro. Hopefully it’s not just classic Bond but a classic thriller.”
Daniel Craig is signed on for one more Bond film after “Spectre” and is expected to retire from the role after that.
